Pekan - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the state governments led by the opposition pact are seen to be questioned by the people who are beginning to doubt their credibility in administering the states concerned.
He said, if the opposition were previously seen to be easily disputing the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, they must now realise that it was not easy to administer as they had easily made promises to the people each time the general election approached near.
"Actually, when they become the opposition, it is very easy for them to dispute the Barisan Nasional government, as though we have no credibility and so on.
"Several cases that have cropped up now are due to the promises that they made to the people before the general election and their failure to make the correct decision in a local situation and taking into consideration the local community," he said.
He said this when asked to comment on the Dialogue Session With Section 23 Residents in Shah Alam, Selangor with regard to the proposal to relocate a temple in Section 19, Shah Alam to their housing area which resulted in a commotion.
At the dialogue session, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was also jeered and berated by about 200 residents of Section 23 who participated in the dialogue.
Najib said what transpired had clearly showed that the states under the administration of the opposition pact were facing various problems and they had failed to tackle any issue that had cropped up.
"The credibility of the opposition government in the states under their administration has now been questioned by the people themselves.
"When they hold power, they face so many problems, whether the problems were due to their failure in fulfilling their promises (made during the last general election), (or) caused by the decisions that they made which did not meet the people's expectation, or the problems cropped up due to the incorrect decision they had made in tackling a particular situation," said Najib.
Asked whether the federal government would intervene or assist the Selangor state government in resolving the issue, Najib said the federal government could not assist because the question on the new site for the temple was under the full jurisdiction of the state government.
Asked on the BN candidate for the by-election for the Bagan Pinang state seat in Negeri Sembilan, Najib said the matter was still too early.
He was again asked about the bonus for civil servants to which he responded with a smile: "(That you have to) ask the KSN (Chief Secretary to the Government)."
Earlier, Najib visited several houses of sickly and elderly residents in Kampung Padang Jaya, Jaya Gading, Kampung Sri Damai, Kampung Bentan and Kampung Pulau Serai, and visited victims of a storm in Kampung Panchor, Pekan.
Commenting on the visits, he said he had made such visits as a normal routine ever since he became the Member of Parliament for Pekan a long time ago.
"I find that such an approach had been very effective because I can see the situation for myself, and meet the residents who need assistance from the government or from the Yayasan Taha," he said.
