Bagan Pinang: No official list yet, says Muhyiddin

Shah Alam - Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Sunday the party has not received any official list yet on the possible candidate for the Bagan Pinang state by-election in Negeri Sembilan.

"They have not sent the list officially; I only read about it from newspaper reports," he told reporters here when asked on the Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate for the area.

Earlier, he visited the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority's (Fama) Pasar Tani.

Muhyiddin said that any decision on the BN's candidate would only be announced after the Election Commission (EC) had fixed the dates for the nomination and polling.

He called on certain quarters not to speculate too much into the matter.

The media recently reported that all 33 Teluk Kemang Umno division committee members had unanimously proposed the division's chief, who is former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, as the BN candidate.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent assemblyman Azman Mohammad Noor of BN on September 4.

The EC will meet tomorrow to fix the dates for the nomination and polling.

On the results of MIC elections yesterday which saw leaders aligned to MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Velly sweeping to victory, Muhyiddin said, "This is the decision of MIC delegates and it is accepted by all."

He said that the BN hoped that the new line-up would work hard to regain the support of the Indian community to the party.

"The new line-up is now responsible in strengthening and consolidating the party," he said.

Muhyiddin said he believed that the new MIC line-up would give serious attention to the call by prime minister that the party should help bring victory to the BN.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin hoped that local authorities would provide more sites for the Pasar Tani to enhance the marketing of agricultural products direct from the farms and to give the opportunities for farmers to do business.

He also toured the Pasar Tani here and later, together with wife Puan Sri Noraini Abdul Rahman, handed over Aidilfitri aid to the elderly and orphans from Amal Kasih and Limpahan Kasih orphanages in Subang and Puchong respectively.
